THERE IS NO CLOUD

Trying to get your head around Cloud Computing? The book “Cloud Services for Dummies” is 64 pages long.  Even they have a hard time explaining or rationalizing it. Cloud Computing in function is nothing new.

This marketing or buzz term however is new and describes our ability to access data from any device from anywhere. We have been able to do even before the internet with modems (dial up over phone lines) and now more so with ubiquitous internet access.

Simply put “Cloud Computing” is an internet connection to someone else’s server. (There is no cloud, it’s just a computer somewhere else.)

Technically speaking, connecting from home to your work place is remote computing. Our only concern should be, as with any service, security and availability and have a driving economic reason for external or in house storage.
